Switching to a Public Profile allows users to have more than 8,000 followers, with no limit on followers for public accounts.
A Private Profile can be followed by up to 8,000 people, and if this limit is exceeded, users will be prompted to make their account public.
This limit encompasses any pending requests or invites.
